Daytona Beach is our home yard. Our shop is on Mulberry Street and most of the jobs we run in a given week are inside the city limits, so a same-day look at a hazard tree is usually realistic here in a way it is not two counties over.
The tree stock around Daytona splits fairly cleanly. Beachside you get salt wind, sandy soil and a lot of cabbage palms and sea grape that need very different handling than the mainland. West of the Halifax you get the big live oaks and slash pines through neighborhoods like Daytona Highlands and Ortona, and those are the trees that put limbs through roofs when they are left alone too long.
The oaks through the older mainland neighborhoods spread wide and pick up end weight for decades. Reducing that weight is what keeps the limb on the tree instead of on your roof.
Trees east of the Halifax deal with salt spray and shallow sandy soil. Root plates are smaller than they look, which matters when we assess lean.
Pines root shallow and Daytona holds water. A pine that started leaning after a wet summer is a genuine hazard and needs looking at rather than guessing.

See detailsThe City of Daytona Beach requires a permit to remove a tree measuring four inches or more in diameter at four and a half feet above the ground, and since January 2021 residential removal permits also require a tree survey. Live oaks and bald cypress at thirty six inches or larger are treated as heritage trees and need county sign-off.
